After the twenty-four parking lots handed over last year, this year the population of Vászonfehérítő utca became richer with another twelve, which do not eliminate, but significantly alleviate, the chronic shortage of parking spaces in the district.

– In recent years, in the Győri Kapu district – as well as in other parts of the city – I have noticed that one of the biggest concerns of the population is the lack of parking spaces. Especially where there are housing estates, with many people in a relatively small area. Dealing with this problem is not easy, since the whole city cannot be one big parking lot, even if there is a demand for it. Especially in an area like Győr kapu, where we value green, there are many trees, grass and green areas. It is always necessary to examine very carefully where there is still a way to create additional parking lots, so as not to endanger our natural environment, he explained Gábor Simon municipal representative of the district.

He added that, at the same time, it is also legitimate to demand that anyone who has a car be able to park it somewhere near their place of residence when they get home from work. Therefore, every year, the representative strives to reconcile the different, but legitimate demands and requests from the point of view of all parties, and thus help to realize one investment at a time. This is how it happened in Vászonfehérítő utca, where in the previous year he promoted and financed the construction of twenty-four new parking spaces, and now another twelve, from his representative’s fund.

Gábor Simon drew attention to the fact that all such investments must comply with extremely strict laws and local regulations, which determine where and how much can be built, for example, without harming green spaces.

– When the parking lot was built last year, I promised the residents that we would expand the parking facilities as soon as possible. I kept this promise, the new section with twelve stops was completed in the past few days. As you can see, the population immediately took possession of them, the representative showed.

In response to a question, he said that construction materials and tools needed for the renovation of the Thököly Bridge were deposited in this area, so it was not a green area in the first place. The parking lots did not take away the space from the trees. He mentioned as a special advantage that, compared to a previous public procurement quotation, it was possible to get the design and construction works done cheaper by about one and a half million forints. The development thus cost HUF three million net – HUF 3.8 million gross.
