Opposition activists were attacked almost simultaneously in three places in Budapest

--

The activists of Gergely Karácsony and DK-MSZP-Párbeszéd gathering signatures were attacked in three places at the same time on Thursday in Budapest, according to Klára Dobrev and Tímea Szabó. According to Dobrev, there was an organized attack, with which “power crossed a line that only dictatorships are used to”.

According to Szabó, on Thursday, the signature collection stands in Blaha Lujza Square, Deák Square and Békásmegyer were attacked almost simultaneously. According to him, their tents in Deák Square had to be closed because all the activists staying there were beaten by the attackers.

According to MTI, Szabó said: according to those present at the time of the incident, middle-aged men in black jackets approached people who looked like alcoholics and handed them money, and the latter then started shouting, cursing Gergely Karácsony, Klára Dobrev and the opposition. According to Szabó, Fidesz may be behind the attack.

Tímea Szabó said: In Békásmegyer, she herself took a photo of the men who were sitting in black jackets on the surrounding benches. He notified the police and the public area supervision, who went to the scene and had the troublemakers certified.

According to Klára Dobrev, “people were injured who were guilty of gathering recommendations for the victory of the opposition and the replacement of power in their spare time.”

During election campaigns, and especially during signature gatherings, it has happened before that sympathizers of different parties speak to the activists of the other party. There have also been examples of physical attacks, in 2017, during the Nolympia campaign, for example, one LMP activist was beheaded and another was hit in the head with a bottle within a few days.

We asked the BRFK about what happened, as soon as they answer, we will update our article.
