Xi Jinping will visit Hungary between May 8 and 10

--

Gergely Gulyás confirmed the information that appeared in the press at the beginning of April at Thursday’s government briefing, as he announced that Chinese President Xi Jinping will visit Budapest between May 8 and 10 after his visit to Paris and then to Belgrade.

Gulyás said that preparations for the meeting are still underway, Péter Szijjártó is working on it, and he also talked about the fact that there will be specific agreements, but the specifics have not been revealed, according to the minister, the foreign affairs department will announce them before or during the visit.

The minister said that there are indeed ideological differences between the two countries, but added that the government’s position is that it is not worth setting up barriers in economic relations on ideological grounds. According to him, it is in the interest of the Hungarian economy to maintain good relations with as many as possible, and China represents a significant force, even stronger than the European Union.

Xi Jinping last paid a four-day official visit to Hungary in October 2009, when he was still the Vice President of the People’s Republic of China, and now he is coming to Budapest after the economic cooperation between the two countries has become closer and closer over the past ten years.

VSquare wrote last week that the Counter-Terrorism Center has already been tasked with preparing the safe conduct of the planned visit with 400 high-ranking guests, and one of their sources spoke of significant closures reminiscent of the papal visit.
