As we reported, the Miskolc Court sentenced the accused to 2 years of imprisonment for the crime of life-threatening bodily harm, suspended for 5 years of probation, and ordered the accused to be placed on probation for the duration of the probationary period.
After drinking, an argument followed by a stabbing
According to the verdict, four children were born from the marriage of the defendant, who leads a drinking lifestyle and has an aggressive nature. After the dissolution of his marriage, the man stayed in the shared house with his 2 adult sons. The defendant was in constant conflict with one of his sons, and both were regular alcohol consumers. Their disagreements often resulted in quarrels, sometimes in violence. On April 10, 2022, both consumed a large amount of alcohol.
During the evening, the two men argued repeatedly, and finally, in anger, the father picked up the 8.5-centimeter knife on the coffee table and stabbed it into his son’s stomach. After that, the defendant’s partner took the knife from the man, put the boy in a car and took him to the hospital. The young man suffered a life-threatening injury, but it was only by lucky chance that he survived.
The prosecution announced an appeal against the verdict in order to increase the punishment.
He became aggressive on a regular basis
The General Prosecutor’s Office of Debrecen upheld the prosecutor’s appeal. From the court documents, it can be established that the accused has been living an alcoholic lifestyle for at least a decade, and when he is drunk, he regularly becomes aggressive, primarily towards his family members.
The circumstances of the offense do not support the position of the first-instance court that the punishment goals would be achieved even without ordering the execution of the imposed prison sentence against the offender.
