BAON – Old age

The other day we talked about how old you feel in the editorial office. I myself, who can be said to be a senior in the team, took it humorously and answered: five. I supported my statement with the fact that men always remain children somewhere, even if the outer covering of their bodies does not show this image.

The young colleagues who knew my real age looked good on me, tactfully trying to hide their slightly condescending smiles. Our ideas about old age obviously change over time. Middle-aged or older adults today believe that old age begins later than their peers did ten or twenty years ago, according to a study published recently. Our state of health naturally greatly influences our ideas about aging. People who live alone and suffer from chronic diseases date the onset of old age much earlier. People who see themselves as younger than their actual age are better able to withstand stress and avoid diseases.

I myself believe that we are as old as we feel. I hope that my positive perception of old age will remain in the future, even if sooner or later it turns out that I am old after all. Maybe then, as the rock poet puts it, I’ll be too old to rock and roll, but too young to die.
