The leader of the Fidesz faction spoke on Hírtv on Wednesday about their package of child protection laws submitted the night before, according to which pedophile-type sexual crimes would not be statute-barred, and the perpetrators could never receive a moral certificate. With this, Fidesz is trying to regain its credibility with its voters, which was damaged in the amnesty case. Máté Kocsis also said in the interview that, based on the new rules, K. Endre would have received an additional 2 years in prison, for example, because he did not indicate that the children in the institution where he works are at risk.
When presenter Vilmos Velkovics asked the faction leader whether child protection would be a theme in the campaign, Kocsis gave a dismissive answer:
“It can’t become a campaign issue because the Western European elite is playing the war psychosis so high, it’s so hyped up the topics related to the war, war preparations are underway, that I see today that the campaign will be war not only in Hungary, but all over Europe main topic.
It is a different matter whether we take the opposite position to the Western world. So we think that peace is the way to go, and not war preparations. And it is on this branch that we clash with the left in our country, because it is also palpable that the left-wing politicians have published much less information about child protection in the last one, two or three weeks than, say, about supporting the pro-war position in the West.”
