Out of sixteen city districts, the Avas city center may undergo one of the most spectacular developments. The condition for this is “only” the disbursement of EU funds.
Developments in the district of Miskolc under the Territorial and Settlement Development Operative Program Plusz (TOP Plusz) until 2027 were discussed at the press conference on Wednesday afternoon, at which Tibor Sopkó reminded me: the city administration wants to spend a significant part of the nearly thirty-two billion HUF resources on the implementation of developments in the districts of Miskolc that will affect the daily lives of the people living there, and “not to let Miskolc be full of spectacular investments”.
As our paper also followed up: in the fall of 2022, local residents were asked for their opinion on the most frequented point of their residential area at the socializing on-site forums. The entire planning phase was determined by the fact that the people of Miskolc had a say in the processes.
The Deputy Mayor responsible for development of Miskolc recalled: thanks to the preparation of Miskolc’s Sustainable Urban Development Strategy last December, following the long and serious teamwork of the officials, everything is currently in place to keep the investments of the next EU development cycle, including those related to the development of city centers, at the highest level of preparedness .
According to the city manager, it is therefore extremely important that the government reaches an agreement with the European Commission as soon as possible. Until then, the city will not be able to implement the plans for Hejőcsaba, Szirma and Dísz tér on its own. We learned from him: Miskolc is still in a relatively good position, given that the EU treats us as a priority settlement, that is, it awarded the settlement the above item directly, rather than through the government.
– The first phase of the Avasi housing estate was built in 1973. In the area of the city, which was considered extremely modern at the time, hardly any strategic development took place in the last fifty years – he noted not only as the local government representative of the district Dénes Sarkaadding: the recent development of Avastető also showed that the observation deck and how its environment has already needed renovation.
Presenting the concrete visual plan, the development councilor said: the new image of the city center may be able to win the favor of both the locals and those living in other parts of the city. At the same time, he expressed his gratitude to the locals who tidied up the area in front of the post office of the town in recent years as a result of civic activism.
