Index – Interior – A public area was named after the 21-year-old policeman who died under tragic circumstances

The Metropolitan Assembly voted to name a public area commemorating police officer Tamás Balázs Mátyás, who died under tragic circumstances at the age of 21. From now on, in Újpest, the area next to the intersection of Iglói út and Fóti út will be called “Mátyás Balázs Tamás tér”. The petition was filed by the deceased’s parents.

Posthumous Staff Sergeant Tamás Balázs Mátyás, IV. The patrolman of the district Police Department was only 21 years old when he died in a road traffic accident on the night of February 15, 2018 at the intersection of Fóti út and Leiningen Károly utca while trying to raise an alarm. The young policeman was innocent. After his death, the sergeant was posthumously promoted to police sergeant by the Minister of the Interior of Hungary and declared “Dead in the Service”.

The commemoration in conjunction with the ceremonial handing over of the square was held on Wednesday, where the father of the policeman who died young gave a speech, as well as Police Major General Tamás Terdik, Chief of Police of Budapest, and Norbert Trippon, Deputy Mayor of Újpest.
