The Faculty of Health Sciences has been enriched with new specialist classrooms, a physiotherapy laboratory, a gymnasium, and student and teaching spaces by transforming the building of the former Applied Earth Science Research Institute in the University City. The investment was acquired with a series of physiotherapy health promotion programs, in connection with which That’s how it was, that’s how it was titled, the renovated part of the building was presented on the morning of Wednesday, April 24, during a tour combined with an exhibition.

“The Faculty of Health Sciences has been looking for a place for its courses for a long time, and not only physically, but also functionally, but now we have arrived. The very important goal of the health sciences training is to be organically integrated into the system of the University of Miskolc and to be useful members of this fantastic university. This goal is also emphasized by the fact that the development of health science courses has been given a prominent place in the strategy of the University of Miskolc,” he said in his welcome speech. He reported that they are constantly expanding the range of their training courses in accordance with the needs of the labor market. Almost every year, a new course and training is launched. He revealed that it was a necessary solution in 2014 when they moved into their current new practice building, which is right next to the faculty’s Stefánia building. The ground floor and the first floor of their new B/5 building are now available for practical training. The teachers and students were able to take possession of the new specialist classrooms at the beginning of the spring semester, on February 12.

On the ground floor, on 460 square meters, there are three specialized classrooms for 310 physiotherapy students, a physiotherapy laboratory, a small gymnasium, student spaces, teaching rooms and a modern water block, as well as changing rooms. And on the first floor, the nurse’s department is already ready, where you can see a baby room and a model consultant, he presented.

Treatments as a gift

“The faculty thanks the university management for their help by organizing a series of health promotion programs between April 22 and 26, the week of the handover moveMENt – The miracle of movement organized by the Physical Therapy Institute Department. As part of this, university employees can use physical therapy treatments – strengthening exercises and massage, cupping, stretching – and individual counseling free of charge, which are difficult to access but extremely popular. Good luck! Health to the world!” the dean concluded his speech.

“The current theme week is about health awareness and the importance of exercise, possibly slimming down. He also points out the valuable work being done at the Faculty of Health Sciences, which has gained weight in recent years. Both the number of courses and the number of students have risen sharply, which the current development will make even more attractive. It is one of our fastest-growing faculties, where specifically practice-oriented training takes place, which is why they also needed this new building. Although this is one of the youngest of our eight faculties, it is our seventh,” he emphasized Zita Horváthrector of the University of Miskolc.

Furthermore, the rector shared that the new building of the Faculty of Health Sciences was renovated with the help of their own funds and the work of their colleagues in the last semester. There is still half a floor to be renovated, which will take place in the summer. The Research Institute of Applied Earth Sciences, previously located in the B/5 building, moved into the main building.
