The participants from many European countries already visited us in 2010, and now they want to come here again, which is a great recognition for the city – said the mayor Gyula Ernő (Fidesz) Görgényi at the announcement of the international firefighting event on Tuesday.
The city manager emphasized that the visitors of the international event can enjoy a complex tourist experience, since in recent years “many developments have been carried out with the support of the Union and the government” in the settlement.
Among other things, they renovated Hungary’s second oldest confectionary, which is still in operation today, the Centennial Confectionery. The Ladics house, which presents the 19th century bourgeois culture in a unique way in our country, was renovated, a water children’s paradise was established in the castle bath, and the bicycle path network was also expanded, which provides connections to many leisure sites. In addition, Almásy Castle and Gyula Castle await those interested with a number of programs. The mayor emphasized that through programs such as the International Firefighter Star Tour, the leisure entertainment of guests visiting Gyula will also be given more weight.

The international event was discussed by retired firefighter colonel József Dudaszeg, who said that after the Foundation for the Survival of the Volunteer Fire Bands won the right to organize the 2024 international parade, firefighters from many European countries are expected.
As he said, so far they have applied from Slovenia, Sweden, Austria, Germany, Denmark and Poland, but the final number may increase even on the opening day of the event.
The organizer also emphasized: the special feature of the star tour lies in the fact that the participating firefighters can bring their family members, so in addition to the professional programs, they can also enjoy the gastronomic, cultural and leisure programs provided by the city. The organizers welcome the visitors with a festival atmosphere during the four-day event.
In addition to spectacular skills competitions, firefighting presentations and demonstrations, leisure, cultural, sports and gastronomic events, as well as a demonstration tour of museum-quality “oldtimer” firefighting vehicles, stand out from the rich offer. The colorful festive parade of the star tour will take place on the most beautiful streets of the city.
