Recommendations must be collected by the beginning of May

President Tamás Sulyok announced the date of the 2024 local government and European Parliament elections on March 12. Those entitled to it can decide on June 9 which party representatives they would send to the European Parliament, as well as to whom they would entrust the management of local affairs and the management of settlements. You can find our big analysis of the campaign starter here. You can read our weekend campaign report here.

In the EP elections, only the party that collects 20,000 valid recommendations from voters by 4 p.m. on May 3 can present a list. In the election of local government representatives and mayors, the number of recommendations required for candidacy was determined by the clerks based on the population of the settlements.

Candidates running for mayor must collect at least 300 recommendations in settlements with more than ten thousand but less than one hundred thousand inhabitants, and at least 500 in settlements with more than one hundred thousand inhabitants, five thousand recommendations are required for the mayoral candidacy. Candidates must collect their recommendations by 4:00 p.m. on May 6.
