THE Ram gap one of the most popular tourist destinations in the forests around Budapest, one of the best-known hiking spots in the region. The ravine itself is a gorge valley of volcanic origin, roughly running in a north-south direction. Its tapering rock walls are sometimes perpendicular, but there are also walls that slope inwards.

Its depth exceeds 35 meters in several places, while its width does not even reach 3 meters in some places. In the rock bed, the water is constantly gurgling, which can swell into a stream when the snow melts and during heavy rains.

– it says Pilisi Parkerdő Zrt.’s announcement.

In the gorge, they have to overcome a total difference in level of 112 meters for hikers. Due to its natural features, it is one of the most difficult marked tourist routes in Hungary, where rockfalls and rockfalls can occur, so Pilisi Parkerdő has so far indicated through all possible channels and means that the Ram gap everyone can visit at their own risk.

The load due to the ever-increasing number of visitors, the long drought periods due to climate change and the alternation of rains with large amounts of precipitation also have a negative effect on the stability of the stone walls of the Rám ravine,

therefore, following the collapse that took place in the past few days, the experts decided to temporarily close the site in its entirety until full-scale geological and static tests are carried out and evaluated for the safety of visitors.

Hikers are asked to be patient, but it was emphasized that

the yellow lane signal running in the Lukács ditch can be used as a bypass route for the Rám gap. It is important that forest visitors do not ignore the closure under any circumstances for their own safety.

This is not the first time that experts have warned that the Rám ravine is dangerous due to rockfalls, and that hikers cannot go to the area.

Even larger pieces of stone, threatening physical integrity, can fall from the rock walls of the ravine onto the tourist path.

therefore, we currently do not recommend visiting the Rám ravine,” they wrote a few years ago.
