The catch at the competition was not yet real, said Tibor Halasi. Mine lakes are not specifically for carp fishing. It is a gravel pit lake with a depth of 25-27 meters, which is not ideal for carp. Despite this, only carp are planted in 90 percent.
“We mostly plant carp because we end up with very good-tasting fish. After we deposit them, after a while the carp becomes so clean in this water that it becomes a delicious, high-quality fish. We also put large fish in the lake, but we have to let them back over 65 cm, that’s the rule”
he said. In the spring, a total of 30 fish were planted in the Nagymegyeri mining pond, 20 of K3, which means three-year-old carp, and 10 of K2, two-year-old. Next fall, 40 carp of K3 will be added.
“This year we reversed the course of the installation. We used to add more in the spring, but we had problems with the water. Since it warms up slowly due to its depth, there have been times when the fish have become fast. In consultation with an ichthyologist and the pond owner, we were advised to try to stock more in the fall and less in the spring, because the fish are in better condition in the fall. In the spring, we get them from Ravazd, Hungary, and in the fall from Csicó”
Tibor Halasi explained. Before wintering, before the water starts to cool down, the stock is fed thoroughly once more so that the fish can absorb the necessary amount of fat before the cold sets in.
