– In contrast to the school districts, the local governments did not receive regulations regarding the salary increase for teachers in January, as to which category above the legal minimum wage increase, and to what extent they should increase the wage. Therefore, the majority of local governments dared to grant the minimum wage increase required by law, which is why – depending on the education and age of those employed in kindergartens – the increase in wages fell short of the expected average increase of 32.2 percent. In Balassagyarmat, this was an average of 25%, explained the mayor.

He highlighted: the ministerial document arrived last week, so we were able to make the following decisions: “Compared to their December salary, all kindergarten teachers in Balassagyarmat will receive a 32.2 percent wage increase. In Balassagyarmat, we will give a differentiated salary above this wage increase, with a difference of up to HUF 40,000 per month, the higher qualification and due to the quality of work requested by the institution’s managers.”

Gábor Csach also mentioned that at the beginning of May, all kindergarten teachers working in colonial kindergartens will receive the difference between the increase received in January and the new increased amount going back 5 months. In the institution’s budget, the HUF 5 million allocated before the increase will also be left for the second half of the year to deal with possible wage tensions.

– In the case of kindergarten teachers in Balassagyarmat, all this means a wage increase above the national average in 2024 – the city manager pointed out.
