The Szekszárd District Court found the Tolna man who left his dogs to their fate guilty of six counts of animal cruelty.

The accused lived in Tolna and kept six dogs on his property, but he moved out of the house in the summer of 2023 and left the dogs alone in the yard of the house. The accused did not properly care for and provide for the children, neglected them, did not provide them with enough food and fluids. The living space of the animals was cramped, contaminated with urine and excrement, and they were not cared for or treated. All of the dogs had fleas and mites, three of them had untreated wounds on their bodies, several dogs’ ribs and pelvis were visible due to their emaciation.

The defendant eventually renounced ownership of all six dogs, and the animals were placed in the Szekszárd Dog Shelter.

The man admitted his guilt at the preparatory session and waived his right to a trial. The district court sentenced the defendant – as a cumulative punishment – to 6 months in prison, the execution of which was suspended for 1 year of probation. The court granted the accused a preliminary discharge. The preliminary exemption shall expire if the execution of the suspended prison sentence is ordered. The court also ordered the defendant’s probation. The judgment is final.
