THE Fráter György Catholic High School his classes traditionally go on a class trip in the fall. In the spring period, the organization of foreign trips will come to the fore, he answered Tünde Molnárdirector of the institution our portal to the question: where are the school’s students going on a class trip this year? “Eger, Debrecen, Budapest and, in recent years, the area around the Danube Bend are popular domestic destinations. The tours are also very popular, our students have already visited several places at class and school level. Our class trips are usually one-day trips, which for a long time took place using a separate bus, but from a cost-effectiveness point of view, most of our classes have been traveling by train in recent years, taking advantage of the free options. The one-day trips do not impose a large financial burden on the families, higher-cost trips are only organized by the class teachers after consultation with the parents,” added the director. In the last few years, they have also regularly applied for the Student Travel Program of the Rákóczi Association, and the students can take part in a low-cost, multi-day cross-border trip with the support they receive.

It should be easily accessible

THE Herman Ottó High School in Miskolc designates a single day for this purpose, on June 14 this year the classes go on a field trip. For senior high school students, this can be two days as needed. The primary consideration is that the destination is easily accessible, if possible by train, due to the high bus prices. They are looking for camps as accommodation, also for financial reasons. Their favorite destinations are Bükk, Nyíregyháza-Sóstó, Debrecen, Eger, Lake Tisza, Danube Bend, Budapest and the Balaton area. “Bus prices have risen significantly in recent years: there is no bus capable of transporting 35 people available for less than HUF 150,000 per day. Accommodation prices also start from HUF 5,000, usually an average of HUF 7,000 should be considered. We rarely ask for meals, we find the offers to be expensive, and the children’s tastes are very different,” said the deputy director of Herman Ottó High School in Miskolc, regarding the class trips. István Péter Hornyák.

Where no class trip is organized

There are institutions where, due to the disadvantaged situation of the students, they do not even try to organize class trips: “We don’t have classic class trips, but we try to get opportunities from tenders that we can use for this purpose, for example, we always plan trips within the framework of the National Talent Program. We take advantage of free opportunities, long-distance transport is already free for under 14s, which is how we got to Mezőkövesd with two groups recently. In addition to the financial ones, unfortunately, the fact that not all of our students have a student card with which they can use the free opportunities is often a problem when organizing trips – he informed about the difficulties Mrs Ildikó Kertész Molnárhead of the Miskolc Open Door Baptist Primary School and Kindergarten.

It doesn’t come at a high cost

“They handle the class trips very skillfully for all three of my children, it doesn’t involve high costs, but wherever they go, we would support them, as we also take advantage of opportunities for trips abroad whenever we can,” said a mother from Mály, whose three children his child studies in institutions in Miskolc. The high school student’s daughters are going on a day trip by train in June, the tenth grade daughter is going to Budapest, and the ninth grade daughter is going to Debrecen with her class. For my first-grade son to the Miskolc Zoo the class teacher organizes the one-day program, where they will go by public transport.
