Katalin Balatoni said at the laptop presentation held at Mihály Munkácsy High School in Kaposvári: it is a great help that the state provides these very modern touch-screen computers free of charge to even the country’s smallest settlement and smallest school for the development of digital competences.

The program started in 2022, a year ago, 120,000 devices were delivered to students, teachers and institutions in the spring semester, and another 140,000 in the fall, he pointed out.

He added that the devices purchased as part of the more than HUF 200 billion program implemented with government support will go to 3,000 task performance locations, including state, church, ethnic self-government, and private institutions.

In the spring semester of the 2023/24 school year, more than 193,000 devices will be given to fifth, sixth, and ninth grade students and public education institutions, parents and guardians could request the computers for the children through the Kréta system, he said.

Katalin Balatoni also spoke about how an “extremely rich” digital development program was launched during the coronavirus epidemic, as a result of which 200 smart textbooks were developed and more than 200,000 digital contents – including physical and chemical experiments, historical animations, maps – were made available to students , and 180 smart classrooms were created.

The deputy state secretary said about the dangers of the digital world that it is very important to educate children to be conscious users.

Attila Gelencsér, Fidesz member of parliament from Kaposvár and Zselic, emphasized that raising teachers’ salaries, renovating educational institutions, developing digital content and purchasing digital tools all work together to ensure equal access to quality education in Hungary.

Rómeó Pintér (Fidesz-KDNP), deputy mayor of Kaposvár, announced that at the current rate, more than 1,500 computers will be given to young people in Kaposvár.

He drew attention to the fact that knowledge can be acquired more easily with modern digital tools than before, but it is also possible to acquire the competences necessary not only for learning at school, but also for a competitive advantage.

Seeing the trends of social media, it is essential that students who are graduating now can edit pictures, record videos, cut and caption them, because they can tell why they are good at something through modern content production tools, he noted.

He believed that this knowledge has become especially important among those who perform tasks in the kitchen, real estate sales, office, or take on public roles.

Krisztina Szilvia Sinka, the director of the Kaposvár Education Center, emphasized that it is essential for modern education that students have modern digital devices.

In the notebook distribution program, 2,090 devices will be distributed in the school district center on Monday and Tuesday, he added.

Katalin Gyallai, the director of Mihály Munkácsy High School in Kaposvári, reported that the school has six ninth-grade classes, and 198 laptops will be installed in the institution.
