The prose reading competition was co-organized by the Kiskunhalasi municipality, Kiskunhalasi II. Ferenc Rákóczi Catholic High School and Technical High School, KSZC Dékáni Árpád Technical High School, István Bibó High School, Pásztortűz Egyesület and János Thorma Museum.

The literary competition took place with the participation of primary and secondary school students, in the framework of which they read excerpts from the novel Give Me Back My Mountains by József Uz Bence and Albert Wass.

The host of the event, Anna Tóbiás – who used to be a regular participant in the competition herself – welcomed Fráter Oliver, historian of the National Strategic Research Institute, László Téglás, II. The director of Ferenc Rákóczi Catholic High School and Technical School, Gábor Bányai, Róbert Fülöp, Endré Kemény, János Kemény’s grandson and actor András Sinkovics-Vitay, the guest of honor of the event.

At the opening, Dr. Ottó Döme, president of the Transylvanian Stars Literary Association, reminded that the event was first organized 21 years ago at the II. Together with Ferenc Rákóczi Catholic High School and Technical College, in 2014 the event grew into a Carpathian Basin competition. On this occasion, on March 21, 2014, together with guests and students from across the border, the Transylvanian Stars tree was planted on Semmelweis Square.

At the opening of the event, Ottó Döme awarded the title of honorary member to the following persons: prof. dr. Professor Éva Hózsa, retired university professor of the Department of Hungarian Language and Literature, Faculty of Arts, University of Újvidék, dr. Professor Hargita Horváth Futó, professor of the Hungarian Language and Literature Department of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Újvidék, Róbert Fülöp, mayor of Kiskunhalas, Endre Kemény, grandson of Baron János Kemény, the founder of Helikon, László Téglás, II. For the Director of Ferenc Rákóczi Catholic High School and Technical College and György Pallag, President of the Upland Carpathian Sport Civic Association.

The competition was organized in two categories, contestants of both age groups read excerpts from selected works, which were presented based on the number drawn during registration.

The jury president of the elementary school category was Mátyás Dráfi from Felvidék, a Kossuth- and Jászai Mari award-winning actor, while the jury president of the secondary school category was Mrs. István Nagy, director of the Sándor Petőfi Primary School and Kindergarten in Kecskemét.

Announcement of results

In the primary school category, the following results were achieved: 1. Balázs Szabados, Erkel Ferenc Primary School Gödöllő, 2. Ladányi Viola, MARIANUM Church School Center Komárom – Felvidék, 3. Egyed Nelli Elekes Vencel Primary School Gyergyóújfalu – Transylvania.

The II. Ferenc Rákóczi Catholic High School and Technikum special award: Borbála Bukovszky, József Kossányi Elementary School and Kindergarten Szentpéter – Felvidék. Kiskunhalas City Special Award: Katinka Egyed, Elekes Vencel Primary School Gyergyóújfalu – Transylvania. Transylvanian Stars Association special award: Balázs Bicsák, Elekes Vencel Primary School Gyergyóújfalu – Transylvania. Jury’s special prize: Simon Ádám Szúcs, Szent Anna Catholic Primary School Jánoshalma. Pásztortűz Association special award: Katona Karina, Szent Gellert Catholic Primary School Kiskunmajsa. Memorial card received: Renáta Bernadett Holzhei, József Kossányi Primary School and Kindergarten Szentpéter – Felvidék.
