On Wednesday, the European Parliament will vote on the resolution on the Hungarian rule of law procedure

On Wednesday evening, the European Parliament will vote on its resolution on the weakening of the Hungarian rule of law. All the major party families participated in the proposal, including the momentous Katalin Cseh and the party president, Anna Donáth, among the Hungarian representatives, according to the RTL report.

Anna Donáth submitted three amendments to the decision to be tabled tomorrow. In the first, he asks the European Commission to freeze the payment of EU funds again. Because nothing guarantees that they will not be stolen by the Hungarian government. “The audio recordings made public by Péter Magyar clearly prove that there are serious problems with the independence of the Hungarian judiciary, and the government’s claims so far cannot be taken seriously,” adds Donáth.

In the second, he asks the Commission to get the sovereignty protection law suspended through the Court of Justice of the European Union. Because according to the politician of the moment, the law goes against the European legal order.

And in the last one, that they should do everything so that the Hungarian government has to join the European Public Prosecutor’s Office. According to Donáth, joining the prosecutor’s office is “the fastest and easiest way to solve corruption problems and to ensure that EU funds cannot be stolen without restraint in Hungary.”

According to the politician of the moment, it is necessary to freeze EU funds because the government could easily embezzle these funds, which is why they are asking for them to be paid directly to citizens, businesses and municipalities.

In response to this, Fidesz MEP Tamás Deutsch told RTL that Momentum is doing the same as it has always been for five years, politicking against Hungarian interests.

Fidesz communications director Tamás Menczer also expressed his opinion regarding the freezing of EU funds. In a statement sent to MTI, Menczer wrote that “the dollarist left has launched another attack on Hungary, they would take the Hungarians’ money”, according to him, “this is completely against Hungarian interests, an open attack on Hungary”.

Momentum’s president responded to Menczer’s statement in a Facebook post. In his post, he wrote that “it is certainly not in Hungary’s interest that they try to build their own clientele with EU money, while the rule of law is already in such a state that a minister can have his name erased from prosecution files.” He then added that “someone cannot educate others about Hungarian interests: the Orbán government, which represents Russian interests in the EU and is constantly embezzling Hungarian and European taxpayers’ money.”
