A number of development projects affecting Debrecen were reviewed at their next meeting by the working group responsible for the coordination of developments in Debrecen, consisting of representatives of the Debrecen city management and the Ministry of Construction and Transport. Following the meeting on April 23, 2024, Mayor László Papp and State Secretary responsible for social coordination of state investments Péter Ágh reported on the details.

Péter Ágh spoke about the task of the working group to prepare and manage the government-supported developments in Debrecen in order to make the city one of the country’s most important economic centers. He added that the developments are viewed from the point of view of how they can help the lives of the citizens of Debrecen. He stated that the people of Debrecen are the first in industrial development in Debrecen!

The state secretary praised the work of the Debrecen city government, highlighting the development of the city’s infrastructure and investments, in which new steps can be taken together. As part of this, the public procurement procedure for the previously announced five major transport hubs will be completed in the first half of the year, after which construction work can also begin.

Mayor László Papp emphasized that there has been cooperation between the government and the city municipality for many years. The focus of this in recent years has been urban development based on economic development, as this ensures the well-being, safety and predictable future of the city’s citizens. Accordingly, at today’s meeting of the working group, the investments that affect the economic development processes in Debrecen were reviewed. He highlighted: these are mainly investments in transport and water infrastructure, for which the funds are available, and additional support contracts are expected for the full fulfillment of the goals planned for the year 2024.

The mayor underlined that economic development in the city must go hand in hand with serving the needs of the population. Accordingly, at today’s meeting, priority was given to the transport developments that the people of Debrecen are looking forward to. This means the development of five large junctions that play an important role in the city’s transport system. Of these, the intersection of Csigekert utca – Szabó Lőrinc utca – Füredi út is nearing the end of the public procurement process. After that, the construction can start, in connection with which the request was made by the Municipality that it should start during the summer school holidays, so as to cause as little disruption to the city’s transport system as possible.

László Papp is also optimistic about the other four junctions (Vezér út – Domokos Lajos utca – 354th main road, Árpád tér – Rakovszky utca – Ótemető utca, Vámospércsi út – Hétvezér utca – Budai Nagy Antal utca, Szoboszlói út – Külsővásártér). that construction works will begin in the second half of the year.
