Data from the National Food Chain Safety Office (NÉBIH) revealed that protective or surveillance zones have been designated in more than fifty settlements in three counties (Békés, Csongrád-Csanád, Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok) due to the increasingly widespread bird flu.

The experts didn’t think it was possible, but it happened: the virus appeared not only in the poultry, but also in the raw milk, and they were also surprised that both cows and goats were infected.

In addition, the statement of one of the leaders of the UN World Health Organization (WHO) revealed that the virus can even be dangerous for humans, and a worker on a dairy farm in Texas is at least certain that he got sick from an infected cow. It should be added that virologist Gábor Kemenesi, assistant professor of the Virology Research Group of the University of Pécs, believes that there is absolutely no reason to panic.

In our country, protection or observation areas had to be established in the counties of Békés, Csongrád-Csanád and Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok due to bird flu. The Pénzcentrum summarized the settlements in the graph below:

Lajos Braunmüller, the editor-in-chief of the Agrársektor, was also interviewed by Pénzcentrum. “Although bird flu causes significant damage and loss in individual cases, at the level of individual farms, the situation in the poultry sector as a whole is reassuring for the time being and the supply is also assured. That is why it is unlikely that this would increase the consumer price of poultry, possibly very little.”
