According to information from the PA news agency, UEFA’s committee responsible for national competitions has already voted to allow participating teams to travel to the European Championship with 26-man squads, but this decision must also be approved by the executive committee.

Originally, each national team captain could have named 23 players, including three goalkeepers, for the event in Germany starting on June 14, but at the previous European Championship, due to the coronavirus epidemic, the national team was made up of 26 players, just like in the 2022 World Cup.

During the national team matches played in March, Dutch manager Ronald Koeman called it absurd that only 23 players could be named to the tournament, and he also indicated that his German colleague, Julian Nagelsmann, also agreed with him. Gareth Southgate, who leads the English team, did not take such a clear position, but said that it would be much more difficult to select 23 players than 26.

The Hungarian national team, which is participating in the European Championship for the third time in a row, is in a group with the hosts Germany, the Swiss and the Scots.
