They won’t occupy Brussels, not even Nagykanizsa, and Budapest is the same

A panel discussion organized by the Republikon Institute was held with the participation of Gergely Karácsony and several opposition mayors, where the mayor said that he thinks Fidesz will regret running Dávid Vitézy in the election.

“They thought that he would take votes from me as an opposition candidate, but I think he will take them from Fidesz,” Karácsony said at the event, based on the 24.hu report. With this, the mayor indicated that, in his opinion, Vitézy, supported by the LMP, is actually the candidate of Fidesz.

“They won’t capture Brussels, I don’t think they’ll even capture Nagykanizsa, let’s leave Budapest,” added Karácsony.

At the event, one of the much talked about topics of the Budapest election campaign, the idea of the BKK police, and Vitézy’s communication that he would clean up the public transport routes were discussed.

“When Dávid Vitézy says that public transport is not a shelter for the homeless, I’ll send him to hell,” responded the mayor to this topic. “Whoever wants to hang the word homeless as a stigma around the necks of citizens, I will speak with them, because this is a question of values for me,” continued Gergely Karácsony.

The non-governmental organization dealing with housing, A Város Mindinkié (AVM), also reacted to Vitézy’s BKK police video earlier. The organization criticized the words of the mayoral candidate. According to the AVM, Vitézy’s sentence “public transport is not a hostel for the homeless” confused crime with homelessness.

Dávid Vitézy, responding to the post of Város Mindinkié, told Telex that he did not think that homelessness and crime were not mixed up in the BKK police program, since “he did not claim that police action should be taken against anyone who needs help from a social point of view”.

Vitézy also added that the situations he mentioned are not necessarily crimes, but generally violations of travel rules. These situations are, for example, when someone stains the seat with dirty clothes, stinks from afar, or harasses fellow passengers.
