At the beginning of April, a video published by a local resident in a Facebook group in Szolnok caused great outrage, showing the interior of a horribly dirty bus. The scribbled seat back and discarded energy drink box are the result of human stupidity, but the large amount of dust is much more indicative of the lack of regular cleaning. It turned out that at Volánbusz, the company close to NER carries out the internal cleaning of the buses in Szolnok, which usually participates in public procurements, in 2021, for example, they received an order of 300 billion.

The recording of route 23A, which runs between the Szolnok railway station and Kőrösi út, really gives the impression that the interior had not been cleaned even after a month of continuous use, we wrote at the beginning of April. It is about the following video:

In our article at the time, we contacted Volánbus and inquired about what can be known about the cleaning of local buses, whether they are struggling with a systemic problem, or whether what happened can be evaluated as an exceptional case.

The communications department gave Szol24 a detailed explanation of the general cleaning process, which consists of sweeping and mopping the floor, dusting the carpets, emptying the trash cans and, if there is one, cleaning the toilet.

“During interior cleaning, we use traditional methods and tools with the appropriate cleaning agents. We use virucidal and bactericidal disinfectants during disinfection. In addition, we also use mechanical disinfection (ozone generator) and UV disinfection methods for complete hygiene. We clean the upholstery surfaces with cleaning agents and upholstery cleaning equipment. On the dirty upholstery surface (side, roof, seats and backs), we use a cleaning agent that loosens the pollutants inside the fabric, disposes of the bacteria there, but does not damage the fabric,” they wrote.

They pointed out that Volánbusz places great emphasis on the cleanliness of its vehicles, and the buses start their daily journey in a clean, tidy and litter-free state.

Upon repeated inquiry, however, it turned out that the internal cleaning of the buses is outsourced to an external company, B+N Referencia Zrt. At first glance, there is nothing surprising about this, but with a little research, it is easy to find out what kind of “unparalleled” successful business it is.

The 24.hu article states that B+N’s success “is considered dizzying even in NER circles.” The company mainly deals with the cleaning and maintenance of buildings, three years ago they received a HUF 300 billion giga order: the public procurement referred to the provision of “full range of daily, periodic, large-scale and ad hoc cleaning and disinfection services” in 107 hospitals in the country, at nearly 400 sites ” they provide.

If all this were not enough, the hospital cleaners were forced into a situation where anyone who did not sign a contract with them was deprived of the opportunity to continue working there. The source of 24.hu also stated that the employees were forced to resign so that they would be taken over by the external company in January this year. They not only clean the hospitals, but also operate them.

The company was founded in 1998, for a long time it was owned by a family from Galgahévíz, then a change came in 2009, when Ferenc Kis-Szölgyémi appeared among the owners, who ran the company together with the business circle of Lajos Simicska. After the clash between Simicska and the prime minister, Kis-Szölgyémi remained, but B+N was not affected by the effects of G-day.

B+N Referencia, called “the state’s favorite cleaning company”, stands out in public procurement, they received orders more than 150 times in ten years, which means that during the time in question they received state orders worth over HUF 600 billion.

Of course, we contacted the company with our questions, which still related to the cleanliness of the buses, but we have not received an answer so far. If this happens, we will update our article.
