The national finals of the Table Tennis Student Olympiad were held last weekend in Kiskunfélegyháza. In total, champions were announced in twelve individual competitions and four team competitions in the city sports hall.

Not for the first time, but for the third time, Kiskunfélegyháza hosted the national finals of the Table Tennis Olympiad. A total of 4,880 entries were received in this sport from the nineteen counties this year, which, after the basic level and county finals, was now followed by the national final for the most successful. In the sports hall, twenty tables were set up for the participants of the six age groups, who stood behind the tables between 19 and 21. On Saturday, at the opening ceremony, he was there dr. Kornél Mákvice president of the Bács-Kiskun County Assembly, Imre Kovacsicspresident of the Hungarian Table Tennis Association, Laszlo Sarithe head of the Table Tennis sub-committee of the Hungarian Student Sports Association, who acted as the president of the competition referee, and Roland Kordásmanaging director of Félegyházi Szabadidá és Sport Nonprofit Kft., Anna Zsámbokipresident of the Bács-Kiskun County Student and Leisure Sports Association.

After the National Anthem, athletes, coaches, teachers and parents were greeted by Kornél Mák. – I am always happy to come to one of the student Olympic sports competitions. One word can be used to describe this movement: alive. It is alive because it moves tens of thousands of children in the country, and I always find that the love of sports is really alive in different sports. Everyone has some kind of talent, either in knowledge, discipline, or sport. Table tennis is a sport that requires skill, and if you have a table, you can play on it. Sport brings out talent in people and motivates them. I wish everyone to be successful and to love sports – emphasized Kornél Mák.

Imre Kovacsics started his speech with an ancient saying. – Speak loudly so they can hear, speak clearly so they understand and speak briefly so they love you. I will try to fulfill them, he said. – The Student Olympiad is Hungary’s largest youth education system. More than fifteen thousand students reach the national finals in various sports. In the sport of table tennis, 4,880 children entered this school year, the best of them compete for places in Kiskunfélegyháza. There are no losers here, only the best among the best. The Hungarian Student Sports Association takes great care to ensure that the student Olympic movement fulfills the dual role it has undertaken. On the one hand, educate young people on a healthy and active lifestyle, and on the other hand, search for talents and provide supplies for world competitions. I am confident that the children who are competing here now will be among them those who we can see at the Olympics in eight, twelve or sixteen years.

Imre Kovacsics also said that the Bács-Kiskun Vármegyei Diák és Szabadidős Egyesület, one of the dominant organizations of the Hungarian Student Sports Association, is active, reliable and professionally at a high level. This is proven by the national student Olympic finals that they organize. He asked those present to continue supporting the student Olympic movement.

The student Olympic oath was read by the members of the first and second age groups of Platán Utcai Primary School in Kiskunfélegyháza, after which the competition could begin. Individual events were held on Friday and Sunday, and team competitions were held on Saturday between boys and girls.
