According to the Hungarian State Treasury, 26 out of 60 school district centers had a total debt of HUF 1,880 million in January, and the situation only slightly improved in February.

According to the Népszava article, although the government gave HUF 1.8 billion at the end of last year to settle the debts of the school district centers, from December to January, 26 of the 60 school district centers accumulated a total of HUF 1.88 billion in overdue debt.

The biggest debtors:

  • Belső-Pest Education District Center: HUF 340 million
  • Mátészalka Education District Center: HUF 193 million
  • Váci School District Center: HUF 177 million

As the Népszava article reminds us, the Belső-Pest School District is the school district whose financial manager was recently detained on suspicion of corruption.

By February, the situation improved somewhat, the number of school districts accumulating debts decreased to 20, their total debt was HUF 1.6 billion.

January-February changes:

  • We managed to settle the debts in the school districts of Dunakesz, Kelet-Pest, Miskolc, Szeged and Tatabánya.
  • In the Mátészalka Education Center, the debt stock decreased to HUF 81 million.
  • In the Váci Education Center, the debt stock decreased to HUF 97 million.
  • The Balatonfüred, Esztergom, and Kaposvár school districts already had debts in February, not yet in January.
  • The debts of the Békéscsaba Education Center increased from 39 million forints in January to 155 million
  • The Belső-Pest Tankerületi Központ still had the largest debt: HUF 336 million.
