Mattia Messina Denaro, the former leader of the Sicilian mafia organization Cosa Nostra, registered as a bachelor doctor and sought relationships with women on the largest social networking sites, MTI reports based on the Italian authorities’ statement on Monday.
Denaro chose the name Francesco Averna and presented himself on his profile as a unique doctor who graduated from Bocconi University in Milan.
The mafia leader was arrested in January of last year at the gate of an oncology clinic in Palermo after more than thirty years of surveillance. Denaro, who was sentenced to multiple life sentences and died of an illness in September, primarily used social networking sites to keep in touch. Until his arrest, he wrote private messages to women, some of whom he met in person.
They are still investigating
On the largest social network, the mafia leader had four followers, including a woman who lived in the Sicilian town of Campobello di Mazara, where Matteo Messina Denaro was hiding. The owner of a sports shop in Sicily also followed Francesco Averna’s page.
On another profile, he had sixty-three followers and followed more than four hundred others. He didn’t post a photo of himself, he posted a photo of a puppy on his profile page.
She also sent messages on social media to her sister, Anna Patrizia, who used the name Lucilla after a Roman empress. The authorities did not close the investigation with the death of Matteo Messina Denaro: they are constantly making public the secrets of the mafia leader’s life and activities.
Sinister tattoo
Authorities also discovered why Denaro had the date October 8, 1981, tattooed in Roman numerals on his left arm. After his arrest, he told his brothers who visited him in prison that it was an important date for him. In the mentioned year, Matteo Messina Denaro was 19 years old, a young member of the family headed by Don Ciccio Messina Denaro.
That day, a mafia showdown took place in the city of Palermo: in the space of a few hours, four murders were committed between members of opposing clans. Authorities now believe that Mattia Messina Denaro had his “initiation” that day and killed a person for the first time.
This is how he became a member of Cosa Nostra, and until his arrest, he killed hundreds of people either personally or on orders.
