Playful word battles – students could learn debating culture at MCC

--

How does argumentation technique, rhetoric or even problem solving work? The debate culture questions were answered by the university students in Debrecen and the high school students in Békéscsaba through interactive games.

As part of MCC’s DEsputa Project, in Békéscsaba, on Monday, two university students from Debrecen tried to strengthen the community-building power of debate and the building of communication between students.

– This open day is part of the high school program, where we welcome interested young people who want to sneak a little extra into their student years. Today’s open day was also organized for them, so they can see the progress of the project, he said Flender Fanny, the coordinator of the high school program of the Mathias Corvinus Collegium in Békéscsaba. He then emphasized that it is possible to join the high school program until May 3.

The program of the day, the debate training Marcell Füzesi and László Marjai was held. Marcell said that their goal is to foster a love of argument and debate, and to make it easy to speak up.

– First, we hold a warm-up game so that they can feel what it’s like to have fun arguing – said Marcell Füzesi, a member of the training division of the MCC DEsputa project.

The warm-up game was a reformed rock-paper-scissors battle, followed by detective and opinion selection program points, where the students stood on the right side if they agreed with a statement and on the left side if they did not. Here, the issue of energy drinks and the usefulness of physical education classes were among the questions, where opinions were quite divided.
