Almost 194,000 portable computers will be delivered to fifth-, sixth- and ninth-grade students, as well as to public education institutions, by the start of the summer vacation, announced the Deputy State Secretary for Public Education of the Ministry of the Interior in Pécs on Monday.
Katalin Balatoni reported at the press conference held at the Jókai Mór Primary School in Pécs that in the first two phases of the national notebook distribution, which started in 2022, 260,000 portable computers were given free of charge to high school students, teachers and educational institutions. And from this week until the beginning of the summer vacation, almost 194,000 more devices will be distributed, while from the fall of 2024, the current fourth and eighth graders will take their turn, he added.
Laptop computers were provided free of charge to the teachers and students of the state, church and nationally maintained institutions involved in public education.it was acquired as part of a program of more than HUF 200 billion, implemented with government support.
The main goal of the developments is to provide equal access to digital learning for all students, i.e. the tools reach even the smallest villages.
László Őri (Fidesz-KDNP), the chairman of the Baranya County Municipality highlighted: the devices are a huge help in the small village of Baranya, as the devices reach the students in the smallest and most remote settlements thanks to the program, who can also acquire the ability to use digital equipment safely and consciously.
Ákos László Tóth, the director of the Pécs School District Center, announced that the machines will arrive at all institutions in the school district on Monday. The younger generation needs them a lot, since “children are active participants in the acquisition of digital content,” he said.
In the coming weeks, 193,702 notebooks will be delivered nationwide to 3,085 task performance locations in 2,581 public education institutions. About 100 laptops arrived at the Jókai school in Pécs on Monday, while more than 7,500 computers will be delivered throughout the county in the next period.
In addition to computers for personal use, the program provides schools with notebooks for institutional use, thereby improving information and communication technology equipment and equal access to equipment. The program will continue in the fall of 2024 with the distribution of tools aimed at students in the fifth and ninth grades at that time.
