The accountant from Elek embezzled two million, they asked for a suspended prison sentence

According to the indictment, in July 2021, the woman entered into an employment contract with a shoe manufacturing company based in Martfű to perform the duties of chief accountant, and her place of work was the company’s Békéscsaba location.

It gave the appearance of a real economic event

Based on her job description, the woman works for zrt. in the case of other Hungarian companies and subsidiaries belonging to his company group, he was also entitled to perform the duties of chief accountant at the company group level. His tasks included the reconciliation of the companies’ current accounts and the management of accounts receivable. In connection with his duties, he could also initiate bank transfers, so he had the authority to dispose of the bank accounts of the company’s subsidiaries.

The woman – abusing her position as chief accountant and her right to manage the money over the accounts of the affected business companies – between August and December 2022, in an effort to make a regular profit, creating the appearance of a real economic event, initiated unauthorized cash transfers from the accounts of the affected companies to her own bank account.

He also used the name of the tax office

In the case of one of the subsidiaries, when indicating the name of the beneficiary during the bank transfer, the name of a person or company with a real business relationship with the company was falsely given, but the beneficiary indicated his own current account as the account number. In this way, he transferred a total of more than two million from the company’s account to his own on 12 occasions. In the case of another subsidiary, he initiated a transfer of HUF 52,000 to his own account by falsely specifying the name “NAV corporate tax and settlement account” as the beneficiary.

Through fictitious transactions, the defendant unlawfully appropriated the sums of money entrusted to him and used it for his own livelihood. After the zrt. revealed the defendant’s actions, terminated his employment in December 2023 and filed a complaint against him.

The prosecution requested a suspended sentence

In the indictment of the district prosecutor’s office, he proposed that the court sentence the woman to a prison sentence suspended for a probationary period as a cumulative punishment, without a trial, based on the case documents.
