The University of Miskolc and Europe’s most modern intermodal terminal signed a strategic cooperation agreement on Monday afternoon.

The University of Miskolc is organizing the Central European Conference on Logistics 2024 at the beginning of the week at the Hotel Palace in Lillafüred. On the opening day of the event, the University of Miskolc concluded a strategic agreement with Europe’s largest and most modern land intermodal terminal, the East-West Gate in Lunsklitke.

According to the agreement, the University of Miskolc and Europe’s largest and most modern land intermodal terminal are working together to modernize the training of logistics specialists, which includes, among other things, the development of new teaching materials, the provision of guest lectures, internships, and thesis and diploma project topics, the creation of a university process simulation lab, and a student scholarship includes its establishment – it was revealed at the announcement on Monday.

The cooperation is an exemplary initiative that promotes the high-level training of logistics professionals and contributes to the development of the logistics sector in Hungary, the parties emphasized.

János Tálosi and Péter Szűcs also sealed the cooperation with a handshake.

In connection with the agreement, the vice chancellor of the University of Miskolc, Péter Szűcs emphasized: “This cooperation is a huge step in the integration of logistics education and practical training. We are proud to stand by the East-West Gate and to prepare our students for the challenges of the future together.”

János Talosi, CEO of East-West Gate, added: “We feel a responsibility for the development of the region, for ensuring the future of the people living here. That is why we support young people to find courses that provide competitive theoretical and practical knowledge locally. We have been working on this together with the University of Miskolc for years, and now we are expanding our cooperation. I am proud that our employees work at the East-West Gate terminal under world-class conditions and with the most modern technologies. We are happy to share our knowledge, experience, and results with the instructors and students of the University of Miskolc.”

The cooperation between the University of Miskolc and East-West Gate provides new opportunities not only in education and training, but also in the field of research and development. Within the framework of the partnership, joint projects are launched with the aim of innovating logistics services and technologies. According to the plans, the partners will establish two joint research groups, which will be tasked with researching challenges related to the logistics and management of batteries and battery waste, as well as the application of digital twin technology in the field of logistics. As a result, the research capacities of the University of Miskolc and the market experience of East-West Gate are combined, promoting the development of new, innovative solutions.

Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Informatics of the University of Miskolc, Zoltán Siménfalvi explained: “We are sure that this cooperation will significantly contribute to the development of the logistics industry, it will provide talented students with the opportunity to supplement their high-quality theoretical knowledge with practical skills that meet the needs of the market.”

Director of the University’s Institute of Logistics, Peter Tamás said: “Given the possibilities offered by new technologies, the education and research of logistics faces significant challenges, to overcome which, as well as for the dynamic development of the field, cooperation with the leading companies of the region is a key issue. A good example of this is cooperation.”
