A red octopus now dominates the City Hall

--

After Péter Magyar and Anna Donáth, Péter Ungár, co-chairman of the LMP, was the guest of the Telex election program.

“What we are seeing now in Hungarian politics, the anger against the opposition parties, is justified, now we are slapped in the face because of the failure of the ’22 coalition,” said Ungár, who said his party learned from the failure of the construction. They received several criticisms from the opposition parties because of their separate journey, but according to him, it was also a good decision to choose Dávid Vitézy, the former secretary of state of Fidesz, as their candidate for mayor, which is why, according to him, they were cursed from the “parlor of the republicans.”

According to Ungár, one of the indicators of success is that LMP’s Budapest list is ahead of Momentum’s in the opinion polls, which if someone had told him before, he would have reacted by saying, “you shouldn’t drink vodka on rivotril.”

The co-chairman of the LMP talked about how they want to eliminate the political scumbag in Budapest, he says that professionals are needed, and they want to get party politicians out of the capital’s companies. When Ungár was asked who was the boss of the City Hall, Gergely Karácsony or Ferenc Gyurcsány, he said that “a red octopus rules the City Hall”. He then mentioned by name Tibor Draskovits, Gyurcsány’s former finance minister, who leads BKV without any experience in transport.

Ungár also argued that Vitézy would have been opposed by Karácsony: “He is simply a very good candidate. He was very good at what he did. Finally, there is an opportunity to talk about substantive issues.” According to him, the candidate of Fidesz, Alexandra Szentkirályi, is just playing tricks in her campaign, while Karácsony keeps talking about a republic, and real urban development is not a topic for either of them. According to Ungár, Vitézy is not Fidesz’s heck and will also get right-wing votes.

Ungár hopes that they will gain a mandate in the EP elections, in his opinion, the vote cast for small parties is not a lost vote, as Péter Magyar said, because small parties can achieve change with a loud voice. The LMP is confident for the time being, because they are now doing better in collecting signatures than five years ago. He would consider it a good result if they achieved a better result than last time.
