“We don’t mess around anymore, we thoroughly shake up the stagnant water. We’re taking a really big step. And we invite the whole country to join us for this. If many of us Hungarians believe in it, we can jointly carry out such a great deed, which will be mentioned appreciatively and enviously in the whole of Europe, but also beyond that,” 10 million Fa writes in its statement.

The climate crisis, the ecological and biodiversity crisis affects the Earth, and therefore all the inhabitants of Hungary. That’s why 10 Million Trees announced an action day on Earth Day, in which not only the organization’s volunteers and occasional helpers, but all citizens can participate.

We can find a solution to the problem locally. Our goal is to make the solution as effective as possible. Let’s prove it in just one day: Hungary is the greenest country in Europe! Plant as many trees as you can in one well-organized day.

As they write: all Hungarian organizations and organizations, institutions and companies can participate in the National Tree Planting Day, in addition to the participating civilians. Schools, kindergartens, barracks, universities, companies, theaters, hospitals, sports and church communities, choirs, hiking groups, multi-company employees, yogis and birders, members of a wide variety of social or civic organizations.

“The matter of maintaining the human habitat is the matter of all of us. Once a year, we can achieve a huge result together with just a few hours of preparation. At once, we can increase Hungary’s forest cover on a massive scale, its green areas dominated by trees. We can make up for much of what our predecessors and we have wiped out from the surface of Hungary since the beginning of the industrial revolution,” they say.

There is no left-wing and right-wing climate crisis

Starting this year, the first Saturday in March is the National Tree Planting Day – raining on the first of March 2025. “However, we, a foundation, are doing this because we need to ensure the botanical and ecological professionalism of the plantings, and that the event initiated with good intentions can preserve its original mission and cannot be appropriated for either party politics or business purposes,” they said.

The organization emphasized that their action is based on a non-political basis:

The trunk of the tree is circular, with neither a right nor a left side. And likewise, there is no left- and right-wing climate crisis, heatstroke, drought and desertification

they stated.
