Hungary has signed a military and defense industry cooperation agreement with the United Arab Emirates, Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky announced, according to a statement sent to MTI by the Ministry of Defense (HM) on Monday. In it, they wrote: the Minister of National Defense in the United Arab Emirates discussed opportunities for military and defense industry cooperation with Mohammad Fadhel Al Mazrouei, the Minister of State for Defense Affairs of the Gulf state.

According to the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky said: with the signing of the agreement on this matter, the negotiation of military cooperation between the two countries can officially begin. The minister called it an important opportunity to get to know the defense capabilities between the countries, as well as to identify common areas in the field of research, development and innovation.
In the age of wars, Hungary does everything for peace. Since however

the international communities are pushing the conflicts more and more towards escalation, the main goal of the Hungarian government is to strengthen the defense capacity of the country.

The cooperation signed here can help ensure that the striking ability and deterrent power of the Hungarian Armed Forces, which is equipped with modern equipment and consists of highly trained soldiers, is unquestionable, guarantees Hungary’s security, and the military industry also contributes to economic growth,” said the minister, according to the ministry’s statement.

The minister emphasized: strengthening the relationship with the United Arab Emirates, which has one of the defining economic and military powers of the Arab Gulf region, can complement the Hungarian military development program, be it research and innovation for military purposes or even the production of military equipment.

Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky highlighted that Hungary, as a member of NATO, takes the view that it is necessary to develop cooperation with the countries of the Middle East and North Africa, from the fight against terrorism to border protection, in the spirit of expanding defense connectivity.

“It is enough to think about the Russian-Ukrainian war, changes in grain production in the region may cause supply problems in the Middle East and North Africa, illegal migration may intensify, and the threat of terrorism may increase,” added the minister, pointing out that the United Arab Emirates is a significant plays a role in the action against international terrorism and in strengthening the stability of the two regions. “The security of commercial shipping in the Red Sea and the easing of tensions in the Middle East are both in the interest of Europe and the Gulf countries,” said Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
