More than a year ago, we wrote that the Zala County Police Headquarters suspects a chief physician in Nagykanizsa of having accepted gratuities. The police arrested the doctor at his workplace on February 22, 2023, and subsequently searched his house in several places, seizing a lot of evidence.
During the measure, the man was brought to the captain’s office, then released after questioning, so he could defend himself at large.
After that, the investigation started, which was carried out by the investigators of the economic protection sub-department.
According to the latest information from the police, the Economic Protection Sub-Department of the Zala County Police Headquarters completed the investigation in the case of the Nagykanizsa chief physician who accepted the gratuity, and sent the documents to the prosecutor’s office.
Act C of 2020 on the health care service relationship brought significant changes in the field of health care. With the entry into force of the law in 2021, anyone who gives or accepts a gratuity can be punished with imprisonment for up to one year.
Nagykanizsa healthcare was rocked by another scandal last year. In that case, the chief physician of the psychiatric ward was involved, who provided discreet treatments to his private patients in the ward’s VIP room. Several people were involved in the crime. The Zala police worked on the case in coordination with the National Protection Service, and in the end HUF 22 million in cash, documents, telephones and other computer equipment were seized from the suspects. The investigation has been ongoing ever since, and the doctor was dismissed from his job.
