For now, Velencé has only one candidate for mayor, running in the colors of Fidesz-KDNP György Krauszthe current mayor Ákos Gerhard because he did not pick up the letters of recommendation.

In 2019, Gerhard was elected by the locals in the colors of the Regélő Tradition Preservation Association, and the mayor also won a majority in the representative body. The association also registered for the 2024 local government election as a nominating organization, but

the National Election Commission (NVB) refused to register the association on April 20, 2024.

According to the law, the organization that wishes to present a candidate or a list must be notified to the NVB by the person authorized to represent the organization after the election has been scheduled. The Regélő Tradition Preservation Association György Sarf, The deputy mayor of Venice made the announcement, but according to the decision of the NVB, Sarf could not represent the association at the time of the announcement, as his mandate had expired by that time.

We looked for the mayor, but Ákos Gerhard did not want to comment, only recommending his Facebook post to our attention. In this, the city manager writes about an administrative problem and that

next week, all representative candidates will pick up the signature collection sheets and our campaign will start.

The association does not have much time to remedy the problem – the deadline for the list is May 3rd at four o’clock in the afternoon.

Although newspapers close to the government report as a fact that Venice will definitely have a new mayor, this is far from the case. The mayor and the members of the Regélő Tradition Preservation Association can decide not to run in the colors of the association, but as independents, without a nominating organization. We know, by the way, that this is also the plan of Gerhard Ákosék in the event that they cannot remedy the administrative problem related to the association.
