The Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County Prosecutor’s Office has charged a man with the crime of life-threatening bodily harm, who ordered his brother, who was returning home drunk, to pick up articles from his coat, and then when his brother spoke back, stabbed him with a kitchen knife in anger.
According to the indictment, the man welcomed his drinking brother into his family home in the town of Borsod. In February 2023, the brother went to the pub several times during the day and had a drink. When he arrived home in the afternoon, the perpetrator was cutting meat with a knife with a blade length of more than 19 cm.
The perpetrator said that his brother’s coat was very smelly, took it off with him, and when he shook it, cigarette butts and coins that his brother had stolen from him fell out. The man collected the change, then told his brother to clean up the cigarette butts that had fallen on the floor and continued to cut the meat. His brother – while picking the buttocks – spoke back to the perpetrator, who in anger stabbed him with the knife in the direction of the stomach. The victim tried to get out of the way of the knife, so he was stabbed in the left side of the chest.
The man called an ambulance for his brother, who was indirectly in a life-threatening condition as a result of the stabbing. Based on the location of the injury and the dimensions of the tool used, the defendant’s action was capable of directly causing a life-threatening injury.
The prosecution proposed a prison sentence suspended for a probationary period against the defendant with no criminal record.
