Fidesz is running for the former deputy mayor in Pusztaszabolcs, who hit a student with a diary a few years ago

--

Five days ago, the former deputy mayor of Fidesz, László Tüke, announced that this year he will stand as a mayoral candidate in the municipal elections in Pusztaszabolcs. 444 drew attention to the fact that he was the one who confirmed in a report in 2018 that he hit a fifth-grade student in the head with a diary during a school conflict.

Tüke has been a member of the representative body for 16 years, and from 2015 to 2019 he was also the deputy mayor of the city. In 2019, the independent candidate Simonné Zsuffa Erzsébet won the election, and she has been leading the city since then. Now Fidesz is launching László Tüke against him.

As 444 wrote about in detail in 2019, Tüke received a written warning in 2018 as a teacher at Attila József Attila Elementary School in Pusztaszabolcs (where he has taught as a geography-history teacher since 2002) after hitting a child with a diary.

The incident happened on May 4, 2018, during the school holiday, when Tüke, as class teacher, was alerted that a conflict had arisen between a boy and a girl in his class. According to the minutes of the incident, Tüke rushed into the room, pushed a bench in front of the door, jumped on it, pulled out the school radio’s speaker, then started yelling at the children and hit one of them in the head with the diary. Tüke also acknowledged this in the minutes he signed. He justified his agitation by saying that the children told him that a boy had kicked a girl.

“I really yelled at the kids and really hit them in the head with the diary. You can’t do that, but it wasn’t that big of a blow. This may have been psychologically bad for the child. The fact that he denied kicking A. made me mentally ill, and on the other hand, the fact that this was a conflict situation in the class in which he actively participated”.

Although the parents later withdrew their report, it continued at the Dunaújváros School District Center, and the head of the school district center stated that “Teacher László Tüke did not resolve the conflict situation in the class in the manner expected of him. By hitting a child on the head with the diary, he violated his duties arising from his job to such an extent that it can also be the basis for his dismissal”. In the end, Tüke received a written warning, which also included the fact that Tüke himself admitted that he had behaved inappropriately.

Tüke told 444 in 2019 that he believed no abuse had occurred. When he was asked why he signed the report in which he admits hitting the child, he replied that it did not contain the facts. He did not say what he thought he had done wrong at the time.

László Tüke is currently the deputy principal of the elementary school.
