In another fraud attempt, fraudsters are trying to appear authentic using the name and logo of the Magyar Nemzeti Bank (MNB): in a now spreading email scam, criminals are trying to persuade private individuals to download a virus management program “supported by the MNB”, the MNB announced in its statement on Monday, emphasizing that the central bank does not create and support virus management programs for either residential or corporate clients.

Attention was drawn to the fact that it is advisable for citizens approached or harmed in this way to contact the police.

In the letter, the fraudsters also send a link to download the fake virus management program, by clicking on which you have to provide your personal and bank data to the malicious software.

By entering sensitive data into the program downloaded in this way, the customer essentially gives the criminals control over their account. This program is not an anti-virus, your money will not be safe, and if you are not careful, criminals can get your savings, they wrote.

Criminals abusing bank card data made off with two hundred million

In the meantime, it turned out to be a nationwide fraud series.

They also emphasized that the central bank does not correspond directly with residential or corporate clients, nor does it create or support anti-virus programs.

The MNB requests that all bank customers be careful, do not install any software when requested by email, and only download verified applications to their devices.
