A special musical adventure for the whole family: OperaCinema is coming

--

What if we moved classical operas into the 21st century? What if Papagena and Papageno met each other at a house party dressed as pizza and tomatoes? If Don Pasquale were a glutton and couldn’t resist the temptation of a bonbon? Or if, in Pomade, a robber and a superhero played together to trick and get him? OperaCinema is a unique event that aims to bring the love of classical music to children.

In the framework of the program, we can meet classical adaptations of the most important operas on stage, accompanied by live music, and then the stories will be transferred to the canvas that rolls down the stage. Because what if these parts of the opera took place today, all genre frames would be redrawn and would they speak to the youngest in movies?

OperaCinema // Erkel Theater (May 25, 2024)

On May 25, OperaCinema will come to the Erkel Theater with the participation of the biggest Hungarian actors. Opera and film are mixed in this a in a completely new, pioneering production, which not only entertains and dazzles, but also presents the opera genre in a new way. Orchestra and singers on stage, stars such as Imre Csuja, Lia Pokorny, András Ötvös and Titanilla Bogdányi on the screen.

The opera that presents the most powerful human feelings and the cinema that brings human stories to life in the most tangible way meet on the stage of OperaCinema in such a way that Genres that are basically classical are given a 21st-century twist. The program is classic, as Rodolfo and Mimi’s aria from Puccini’s Boheme, Papageno and Papagena’s duet from Mozart’s The Magic Flute, the Torreador song from Bizet’s Carmen, but also Donizetti (Don Pasquale – Doctor and Malatesta’s ‘warrior’ duet) and Ránki (King Pomade’s new clothes – the duo of Dani and Béni).

At the same time, the experience is modern, because during the performance cinema also plays a key role: OperaCinema brings the most famous opera excerpts closer to the audience with the participation of well-known Hungarian actors.

As far as the content is concerned, the genre of opera, although patina, is not at all out of date: the “opera-stories” humor, joy, conflicts, sorrow they are equally present in today’s world, in the lives of today’s young people. OperaCinema is looking for the answer to how these feelings and events play out in the everyday lives of today’s children.
