The newest Budapest hotel of the global chain that has been operating for more than 100 years and in 120 countries on Dessewffy Street is not only made special by the presence of the legendary Hampton waffles or the presence of dogs as permitted travel companions, but from now on the guest experience reminiscent of home is also combined with a direct art experience. The recently opened hotel launched together with the Kisterem gallery and art consultant Lili Horváth Budapest Art Cosmos initiative, which aims to support Hungarian artistic talents and offer visitors captivating cultural programs. The series is conceptual artist Judit Fischer Mundane Romance c. debuts with his solo exhibition, which is open to all interested parties until August.

Among the chain’s 22 sub-brands, one of the most popular is the pet- and family-friendly Hampton by Hilton, which, after opening in Vienna, Warsaw and Marosvásárhely in the region, also arrived in Hungary and Budapest in the fall of 2023. The downtown hotel’s 219 stylish and comfortable rooms and lobby bar follow the brand’s recently renewed design. Bright colors attract attention in the hotel’s public spaces, which offer the opportunity to work during the day or hold meetings, or to relax a little in the evening, including the event hall, as well as on-site parking and electric car charging provided for guests.

Hilton’s commitment to supporting the arts is certainly not new. Their hotels in Hungary have also regularly supported the temporary exhibitions of the Museum of Fine Arts and the Hungarian National Gallery for many years, and in several of their American, Italian and French hotels, their guests can also see original works of art by world classics such as Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol or John Baldessari. The initiative of their latest hotel in Budapest can still be considered unique, as its aim is not to purchase works of art that serve as permanent decoration from a single artist or a narrow circle, but – true to the central value of the brand, cultural diversity – to create a living and constantly renewing, long-term platform, young and middle-generation, international for both established and up-and-coming contemporary Hungarian visual artists. The hotel commissioned art consultant and curator Lili Horváth to develop the concept. The first exhibition of the series was realized with the professional and operative cooperation of Kisterem, who, representing more than 25 highly rated artists at prestigious international fairs, is one of the most decisive contemporary commercial galleries not only in Hungary, but also in the Central European region, operating for almost 20 years now.

Judit Fischer (1981), who graduated as a painter from the University of Fine Arts and won the Klára Herczeg prize, is one of the most original and unique artists of her generation, who is conceptually and medially diverse in her creative practice – which starts from watercolor or plasticine-based object creation, through tapestry and sub-weaving to performative art actions spreads – examines the relationships and interoperability between object and artefact, life and art.

THE Budapest Art Cosmos in the exhibition of more than 20 of his works, a selection of his latest paper-based works can be seen in the public spaces of the hotel. Her watercolor paintings are actually portraits of everyday objects – as stated in Lili Horváth’s opening speech – “her still life-like depictions invite the viewer to the change of focus and perspective that Judit mastered with great awareness and years of consistent work, and they turn our attention to the everyday instead of the exceptional, to the small instead of the grandiose.

“It gives us great pleasure to be able to start our exciting collaboration, with which we not only want to show our guests a slice of Hungary’s rich cultural scene, but also to emphasize our commitment to supporting local diversity and artistic talent.” – said Andrzej Lejman, director of Hampton by Hilton Budapest, in his greeting. – “I am confident that we can continue to build during our operations in Hungary our meaningful partnership, jointly enriching the experiences of both our guests and local communities.”

From April 18 until the end of August, the exhibition can be viewed free of charge for anyone who wants a truly refreshing art experience.
