With the conflict between Israel and Iran, a new war is taking shape in the Middle East, which is why Hungarian Social Research Kft. examined how Hungarian society sees the chances of the ongoing wars becoming global.

Two-fifths (38 percent) of the respondents representing the adult Hungarian population believe that the Third World War could break out at any time, and another 9 percent believe that it is already taking place. The proportion of those who perceive the danger of a world war as real is almost the same as those who perceive war conflicts, but do not see the possibility of a possible world war breaking out in them (46 percent). Among women, the proportion of people who have lived since World War II (51 percent) is higher than for men (42 percent).

The research also examined how, according to the respondents, Hungary should behave in the event of war conflicts. The vast majority of Hungarians (84 percent) agreed with the statement that, in such a situation, Hungary should advocate for an immediate ceasefire and for the parties to sit at the negotiating table, which indicates that Hungarians are in favor of peace.

The research was carried out by surveying 1,000 telephone users (CATI), and data collection took place on April 15-17, 2024. took place between The sample is representative of the population over the age of 18 according to gender, age, region, type of settlement and educational level. For a sample size of 1,000 people and a confidence level of 95 percent, the maximum sampling error is ± 3.16 percent.
