Illegal cigarettes worth nearly six million forints were seized by the tax inspectors in Borsod

--

Financial officers of the Deployment Directorate of the National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV) noticed a street business in the county of Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén.

The cashiers were just nearing the end of their shift when they noticed the actions of two men – who were doing business on the street – as money and cigarettes changed hands. The buyer immediately admitted that he had bought 10 packs of cigarettes without a Hungarian seal from the seller’s car, reads the announcement of NAV.

The 68-year-old “cigarette dealer” was escorted home by the tax inspectors, who denied keeping excise goods at home. However, he could not fool the scent of the cigarette-detecting dog of the Deployment Directorate. Maya immediately found the hiding place carved into the walls, from which thousands of packs of illegal cigarettes were found.

The tax inspectors confiscated 2,687 packs of cigarettes without a seal worth nearly six million forints.

In its statement, the NAV emphasized that the buyer escaped the inspection with a fine, but the seller must also be held responsible for violating the excise law and committing budget fraud and can expect a fine of several million.
