Former deputy mayor László Tüke, deputy director of József Attila Primary School, is running in Pusztaszabolcs in the July municipal election. Tüke is also a municipal representative, but he was the one who received a written warning from the school district headquarters in 2019 because he hit a fifth-grade student with a diary during the school holiday.

The minutes revealed that a conflict arose between two classmates, a boy and a girl, during the holiday break. The class teacher, László Tüke, was informed about this, and he rushed into the chemistry room, pushed a bench in front of the room door, jumped on it, pulled out the school radio speaker, then started yelling at the children and hit one of them in the head with the diary. Tüke also acknowledged this in the minutes he signed.

Although the parents later withdrew their report, the head of the school district nevertheless conducted the investigation and, based on personal interviews, came to the surprising conclusion that “the fact of abuse cannot be proven beyond a doubt.” Tüke himself said in the minutes that he hit the child.

The head of the school district gave Tüke a written warning, in which it is described that “during the disagreement between the children, he did not behave in the way that is usually expected of a teacher in such a situation. You also admitted your mistake”. And they warned Tüke that in the future he should “refrain from reactions like this and deal with possible conflict situations at school with the patience and expertise expected of a teacher.”

At the time, László Tüke told 444 that he did not think there had been any abuse. When we asked why he signed the report in which he admits hitting the child, he replied that it did not contain the facts. We also asked why he received a written warning at the time, and what he admitted he had done wrong, but he didn’t say that.
