Workers from third countries could receive a residence permit for the purpose of employment within the framework of a simplified procedure under Paks II. and related to the construction of the Budapest-Belgrade railway – writes Népszava on the basis of a bill that came as an amendment to the labor protection law from the Enterprise Development Committee.

In the case of the two projects, the newspaper reports, the affected workers could have the residence permit for the purpose of employment for five years from the date of issue. This is, by the way, a longer time than what the immigration law generally provides: because it grants a residence permit for a maximum of three years. According to the proposal, family members of the workers could also receive a permit in a similarly simplified procedure.

The newspaper points out that although the draft law does not specify which non-EU citizens the regulation applies to, the Paks expansion could primarily involve Russian citizens, while the Budapest-Belgrade expansion could mainly involve Chinese citizens.
