Right next to the reeds in Zánka, someone carved out a 180 square meter green area owned by the municipality.
In Zánká, the municipality filed a complaint against an unknown culprit for environmental damage, after someone dug up a 180-square-meter green area owned by the municipality in the past few days.
The special feature of the area, Hvg.hu wrote, is that it lies between the property close to the shore of Balaton and the bed of Balaton, which in itself is not really protected, except that it directly borders the reeds stretching along the bed of Balaton, which enjoy Natura 2000 protection. In addition, the cleared coastal section and a large part of the land behind it also belong to the core area of the National Ecological Network. According to the relevant laws, these are natural or near-natural habitats that are able to ensure the long-term survival and living conditions of the natural fauna characteristic of the given area, and are home to several species of protected or community importance.
The unknown culprit extracted approximately 150-200 cubic meters of land from this area that is home to protected species. With this, he completely destroyed the flora and fauna, and the water of Lake Balaton now reaches the property boundary – hvg.hu learned from the mayor of the settlement. Miklós Filep he said: the report was made because of natural damage, which is a crime punishable by three years in prison according to the Penal Code.
The Veszprém County Government Office conducted an on-site inspection, but according to them there is no reason to take action.
During the on-site inspection of the Veszprém County Government Office, it was found that the intervention did not affect a protected natural area or the lake bed of Balaton. In the absence of authority, the government office has no possibility to take action
the office told the portal.
The police launched an investigation into the matter, but the public was not informed about it at its current stage.
