According to the suspicions of the Economic Competition Authority, the domestic company that distributes Kubu, Topjoy, Apenta and Nestea was able to negotiate with its partners. As a result, soft drinks could be sold at artificially high prices in, among others, Aldi, CBA, COOP and Tesco. The authority launched a procedure, and coordinated raids were carried out on those involved in the past few days.

The Hungarian soft drink manufacturing subsidiary of the Polish Maspex group, Maspex Olympos Üdítőital Gyártó Kft., probably set the minimum consumer prices for some of its products in cooperation with several reseller partners, such as large food chains, including Aldi, CBA, some COOP partners and Tesco. According to the well-founded suspicions of the Economic Competition Authority (GVH).

The GVH suspects that the participants of the agreement are so

they could eliminate price competition, creating an artificially high price level.

In recent days, the competition authority has carried out coordinated raids across the country on the premises of soft drink production and distribution companies and chain stores.

Maspex Olympos distributes the Olympos, Kubu, Apenta, Topjoy and Nestea brands, among others. Suspicion first arose in the HoReCa sector (comprising hotels, restaurants, catering), and the company has been under investigation since February.

The company probably prescribed to its partners the minimum price at which its products can be sold in domestic catering establishments and during wholesale distribution, they wrote. The seized documents indicated that the company acted similarly with its food trading partners, so the participants of the agreement probably avoided price competition in the stores of the affected chain stores.

Therefore, on May 23, the GVH launched a new competition surveillance procedure against Maspex Olympos Üdítőital Gyártó Kft. and several of its partners in the food industry.

It was stated in the announcement that

the initiation of the competition supervision procedure does not mean that the enterprises have committed the violation, the procedure is aimed at clarifying the facts and thereby proving the alleged violation.

The office will have six months to prove it, which can be extended twice, each by a maximum of six months.
