As they added, 1 million more people have been working since 2010, employment is constantly rising, the employment rate of 74.6 percent exceeds the EU average.
The number of unemployed was 190,000 in April, i.e. it decreased by almost 5,000 in one month. The unemployment rate thus amounted to 3.9 percent, which is one of the lowest in the EU.
Government measures effectively and efficiently protect families and jobs. This is also helped by state-supported corporate loans, which already make more than HUF 3,100 billion liquidity resources available to economic operators. In 2023, the Gábor Baross reindustrialization loan program, the Gábor Baross capital program and the Széchenyi card program, as well as the interest rate cap, will contribute about two percentage points to growth, the prevention of recession and the expansion of employment.
The government’s goal is to maintain dynamic economic growth and high investment activity, and to significantly increase the proportion of employed people by 2030. This means that it is necessary to increase the number of employees by roughly 500,000. The government plans to satisfy the labor demand by increasing the economic activity of the Hungarian population and by involving the inactive in the labor market. In Hungary, the number of people in the labor market reserve can be estimated at more than 300,000 people, and it is possible to involve them in the labor market by strengthening training and retraining. There is significant potential to increase the activity of people under 25 and over 65.
According to the government’s firm decision in principle, the employment of foreign workers can only take place if the vacancies can no longer be filled with Hungarian workers. The purpose of the bill on the employment of guest workers in Hungary is to further strengthen the protection of Hungarian jobs, increase employment and strengthen the work-based society even in the protracted war situation.
