Traffic restrictions are to be expected on Sunday, December 4, 2022, expectedly between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. in downtown Budapest due to the “Santa Run” running race. Due to the road closures, public transport services are running on a modified route, BKK reports.

According to a statement from the Budapest Sports Office, 1,500 runners dressed as Santa Claus will flood the streets of Budapest on Sunday. Due to the running competition, it will be closed to traffic during the day on Sunday:

  • the section of Fővám tér in front of Corvinus University between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m.;
  • Sára Salkaházi, Jane Haining and the lower wharf in Pest between Közraktár utca and Jászai Mari tér between 10:50 and 14:30;
  • and intermittent and periodic closures on the route of the run should be expected at Fővám tér, Belgrád wharf, Irányi utca and Március 15. tér.

BKK flights are also affected by the closures, so they will operate on diverted routes. Trams 2, 2B and 2M are expected to not touch the stops between Eötvös tér and Zsil utca between 10:50 and 14:30. They only run between Jászai Mari tér and Széchenyi István tér, and Közvágóhíd / Pesterzsébet, Pacsirtatelep / Keleti pályaudvar and Boráros tér. Buses 115 and 15 will run on a diverted route between 10:50 and 13:50, trolleybus 83M will stop at other stops, bus 105 and 178 are expected between 10:50 and 14:10 does not affect certain stops.
