You can enjoy a truly memorable sight on Friday evening: thanks to a special moonrise, the night sky will paint a different picture.

It will be worth staying awake longer on April 26, when a particularly beautiful combination will be observed in the night sky. In the announcement sent to MTI by the Svábhegy Observatory, it is stated that on this day a the rising Moon comes into close proximity to the star Antares.

A special moonrise

The sky on Friday after 11 p.m will be worth spying the moon because then it will be in close conjunction with the brightest star of Scorpius, the 1st magnitude red supergiant, or the star Antares, at 36 arcseconds. According to the information, it is in Budapest The star Antares rises in the southeast at 11 p.m., the 91 percent phase, and a nearly full moon follows after a good 5 minutes then.

The interesting thing about the conjunction is that while it looks like only a close approach from Hungary, in the more eastern regions of the Earth, the Moon will also cover Antares.

If you want to be a part of this special moonrise, it’s good to know how to observe it open and clear horizon required. At such a spot, even a simple hand-held telescope will provide a truly memorable sight glittering in all the colors of the rainbow near-horizon Antares, and the proximity of the reddish lunar disc flattened by atmospheric refraction.
